Sourdough Companion - Crumb

Developed by Red Kite 9 Ltd., Crumb is a companion app for sourdough bakers. Track every bake from mixing your levain to slicing the finished loaf, log your starter feedings, and build up a personal record of what works — your hydration, your timings, your flour, your kitchen.

Record each bake step by step: feeding the starter, autolyse, mixing, stretch and folds, bulk fermentation, shaping, proofing and baking. Add notes and photos along the way, including the all-important crumb shot, so you can compare loaves and learn from every bake.

Keep your starters healthy too — log feedings with ratios and flour types, and see at a glance when a starter was last fed.

Crumb is free to download and use. An optional subscription unlocks all premium features, so you can start tracking your bakes straight away and upgrade when you're ready.

Crumb is a personal tracking and note-keeping tool. It does not provide professional baking instruction, and it is not a food-safety tool — always use your own judgement when preparing and consuming food.

Last Updated: 2026-Jun-12

At Red Kite 9 Ltd., we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how Sourdough Companion - Crumb handles information for our iOS application. Crumb is designed to collect as little data as possible.

1. Data Collection and Usage

2. Third-Party Services

Because the App uses Apple's In-App Purchase system to offer subscriptions, Apple processes your purchase and may collect certain transaction data. We never see or store your payment card details. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles your information.

3. iCloud Sync

Crumb uses Apple's iCloud to sync and back up your bakes and starter records between your own devices. Your data is stored in your private iCloud account and counts against your iCloud storage allowance; if you do not have enough iCloud storage available, or you are signed out of iCloud, syncing may be paused or incomplete. iCloud is managed entirely by Apple under your control and Apple's terms — we cannot access your iCloud data. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles iCloud information.

4. Data Security

Your baking data is stored on your device and in your private iCloud account, protected by your device's security and your Apple ID. We recommend keeping your iOS software up to date, using a device passcode, and securing your Apple ID with a strong password and two-factor authentication to keep your data safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Crumb do?

It helps you track your sourdough baking. Log each bake from levain to finished loaf, record starter feedings, and keep notes and photos so you can compare results and improve over time.

Can I track my starter as well as my bakes?

Yes. You can log feedings for your starters — including ratios and flour types — and see at a glance when each starter was last fed.

Is the app free?

Yes, Crumb is free to download and use. An optional subscription unlocks all premium features, available as a monthly or yearly plan.

What do I get with a subscription?

A subscription unlocks all of the app's premium features. Exactly what's included in the free tier and what requires Premium is always shown in the App, along with the current prices, before you confirm a purchase.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Your bakes and starter records are stored on your device, so you can log and browse without an internet connection. When you're back online, your records sync via iCloud so they're available on your other devices.

How does syncing between my devices work?

Crumb syncs your records through your own iCloud account, so signing in to the same Apple ID on another device brings your bakes and starters with you. Syncing uses your iCloud storage, so it requires you to be signed in to iCloud with enough space available.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Since all transactions are handled by Apple, you can cancel by:

  1. Opening the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tapping your Apple ID/Name at the top.
  3. Selecting Subscriptions.
  4. Choosing Sourdough Companion - Crumb and selecting "Cancel Subscription."

Does Crumb teach me how to bake sourdough?

Crumb is a tracking and note-keeping tool rather than a tutorial. It works alongside whatever recipe or method you already follow, helping you record what you did so you can repeat your best bakes.

Will the app tell me if my starter or bread is safe to eat?

No. Crumb only records what you tell it — it can't assess the condition of your starter or your bread. Always use your own judgement and follow official food-safety guidance when preparing and eating food.
